A polarised filter removes the reflected light bouncing off water, bitumen and the bonnet in front of you and leaves the rest. That is why a good pair feels like turning the volume down rather than turning the lights off.
Yes, and it is the situation polarised lenses are best at. One thing worth knowing: some LCD dashboard and phone screens dim or shift colour through any polarised lens, on any brand. Tilting your head slightly clears it.

Colours do not have to match, mix them freely. It applies on its own at checkout and there is no code to remember.
